Problem : Right Click anywhere blank area on Desktop was causing Hourglass to appear for minutes before it would show the menu(context menu).
Machine : Thinkpad w520
Solution (see below NOTES):
WHAT FIRST SEEMS TO WORK BUT DIDN'T :
1) Uninstalled Nvidia graphics...display etc drivers.
2)Got the latest from
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014142
Downloaded NVIDIA Optimus Display Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit) - ThinkPad
3) Installed & restarted Pc. For some reason, i needed to do the above process (Step 1 & 2) twice to solve the problem.
NOTES: When i was trying to figure out the solution, somewhere on the forums it was said that the problem is with NVIDIA Desktop Explorer or Graphics driver or something else. So the above process worked just fine one time.
EDIT: NOV 29,2013
I restarted machine but again the same problem started happening & even the above process didn't work
Then i noticed that the desktop Right-CLICK is not even showing up the
Nvidia Control Panel option. So i went into the Computers Control Panel , searched for NVIDIA . It showed me the NVIDIA CONTROL PANEL OPTION. But clicking it wouldn't open it either.
FINAL WORKING SOLUTION
So after some search , i came across a simple solution here:
http://www.datarave.net/zfh/2012/07/14/nvidia-control-panel-open/
Simple i went into services, & tried stopping
NVIDIA Display Driver Service
& it worked.
( note: computer tried to stop but it couldn't stop. It did bring the service status from START TO BLANK though) the desktop right click would show the NVIDIA CP option & right click wouldn't hang anymore!
MORE:
The above is sufficient but i didn't want to stop the service everytime i restart. So set the startup type for this service to DISABLED OR MANUAL. Now when you restart then the service will already be stopped. The desktop right-click should work fine. But NVIDIA CP may now show until you start the service. So if you want you can start & it shouldn't cause any Hanging cursor problem.
Love God Love All !
